ActiveX Filter

When you visit some web pages, you may be prompted to install an ActiveX control which is either useless or contains spyware or viruses. In some extreme cases, it will prompt you again and again if you select "NO". It won't end until you select "Yes". That's very annoying and obtrusive, isn't it? ActiveX filter can black list these ActiveX controls so that the dialogs won't come up at all.

ActiveX filter maintains a black list and it will only block ActiveX controls inside the black list. We are including more and more unsafe and obtrusive ActiveX controls into the black list. If you see one unblocked, select "Tools->ActiveX Filter->Auto-detect ActiveX Controls" from the menu and report the detected information to us. We will include it into the black list so that it will be blocked in the next version.

The menu items related with ActiveX filter are accessible from "Tools->ActiveX Filter". They are explained below,

  • Load ActiveX Filter
Enable or Reload ActiveX Filter. If you have modified the black list file externally or manually, you need use this menu item to reload ActiveX Filter to reflect the changes.

  • Unload ActiveX Filter
    Unload or disable ActiveX Filter.

  • Open ActiveX Filter Black List
Open ActiveX Filter black list file (clsid.ini under SlimBrowser installation directory). You can edit the black list file with any plain text editor. Each line of the file contains an ActiveX control class id and an illustrative description. If you do to use enable one of the black listed ActiveX controls, put an asterisk at the beginning of the corresponding line or simply remove that line from the black list file.

  • Auto-detect ActiveX Controls
Automatically detect and extract information about ActiveX controls from the current page. Submit the information to us so that we can block the annoying ActiveX control for you next time.
